Abstract: A total of 50 isolates of soil dematiaceous hyphomycetes belonging to 39 species in 18 genera were found from the area of Dahingganling Mountain Range. Among them, Monodictys arxanensis is a new species. Chrysosporium fastidium, Exserohilum pedicellatum, Monodictys asperospora, Papulaspora brachiata, Scolecobasidium anelli, Scolecobasidium verruculosum and Ulocladium tuberculatum are new to China. The other 31 taxa which have been previously reported from China are also listed. Specimens (dried cultures) and living cultures of all fungi studied have been deposited in the Herbarium of Shandong Agricultural University: Plant Pathology (HSAUP).
Key words: soil fungi, Monodictys arxanensis, new species, new records for China
1 INTRODUCTION
Dahingganling Mountain Range (Greater Khingan Mountains) is one of the most well-known virgin forest area in China. The Mountain Range extends more than 1,200 kilometers from north to south and 200-300 kilometers wide from east to west, covering the moist and semiarid regions of the frigid-temperate zone. The types of soil are mainly brown forest soil, brown soil and black soil. Except forests, many kinds of crops, such as corn, wheat, naked oats, soy bean, potato and beet etc. are planted. All of these provide a rich nutrition source for fungal growth and multiplication. On the other hand, the season of growth in this area is only about three months which may influence the fungal diversity negatively. Fungus flora of this area so far has not been fully studied. As a parts of an investigation project on China’s genera and species of hyphomycetes in soil, a survey of dematiaceous species in the area was made. The preliminary report are presented herein.
2 RESULTS
A total of 50 fungus isolates of soil dematiaceous hyphomycetes from 60 soil samples collected from 13 locations in the area of Dahingganling Mountain Range was obtained. Of which 39 species in 18 genera were identified.
